The entry fee is 120€ per boat as long as long as the crew is consisted of three members (Captain and two crew members). For each additional member the fee increases by 40€ per person.

An additional amount of 20€ is required to receive bow numbers and flags, which will be refunded when you return the bow numbers.

Entries will be submitted to Mr. Magnus Lindberg, on the Christina and Goran Schild Foundation’s website www.villaschildt.fi until Friday September 9th 2016 and at the Secretariat Office for the Race in Leros on Sunday September 11th and Monday September 12th, office hours will be announced in the Notice of Race. The skippers will receive the Sailing Instructions and other items such as flags, T-shirts etc from the Secretariat in Leros.

On Monday September 12th at 18.00 there will be a skippers meeting at the Nautical Club of Leros facilities. At 20:00 Monday, the Opening Ceremony will take place at the Municipal Theatre in Lakki. As always the Opening Ceremony is organized by the Cultural Association of Leros “Artemis” in which musicians and dancers of “Artemis” participate, artists and musicians from other parts of Greece also take part. Also musicians, artists, choirs and dance groups from Finland take part in the closing ceremony for which Christina Shields the President of the Foundation is in charge organizing.

At Opening Ceremony as usual the Ambassador of Finland, the Representative of South Aegean Region and of course the Mayor of Leros will be present.

The first race will be on Tuesday September 13th, the rout will be Lakki- Diakofti Patmos, distance of 20 nautical miles.

The second race will be on Wednesday September 14th, the rout will be Diakofti Patmos-Lipsi, distance of 12 nautical miles.

The third race will be on Thursday September 15th, the rout will be Lipsi-Leros, distance of 15 nautical miles.

The Closing Ceremony and prize giving ceremony will take place at 20:00 Thursday September 15th at the Nautical Club of Leros facilities with dinner and music. Dinner at the Closing Ceremony for the crew members is free. For other participants the dinner will be charged 20€ per person.

The mooring at all the ports of the race be free and will be in accordance with the instructions of the Organizing Committee.

In Lakki of Leros Saturday the 11th, Sunday the 12th and Thursday the 15th of September the boats that are taking place in the race can anchor for free on the outer pier of Leros Marina and to use the facilities of the Marina for free. This is a courtesy of the Administration of Evros Marina and was at the request of Morten Johansson, former Mayor of Ekkenes. It should be noted that the Leros Marina other than the exceptional services it offers to customers and boat owners, has well equipped facilities and one very nice cafes, beautifully laid out and spacious, friendly staff and great views, where guests can spend pleasant hours.

To organize the details of the mooring, the reception of sailors and the organization of events at each stop of the Race, the President of the Foundation Christina Schild and President of the Nautical Club of Leros Alexis Charalampidis visited Patmos and Lipsi.

In Patmos the Race representatives met with the Mayor of Patmos Mr. Gregory Stoikos and owner of Patmos Marina Mr. Sozontas Kamitsi, who both expressed their delight with the choice of Patmos as the one of the Race stops and said that they will happily do everything they can to ensure a pleasant stay for the competitors. For the mooring at the facilities of Patmos Marina details are: Eight boats will be able to moor at the pier of Marina next to each other (in piles). Another ten vessels will be able to moor on the buoys of the Marina while the rest will moor in the bay Diakofti. The Race Organizing Committee will take care of having a small boat to transport the sailors moored in the Marina and vice versa.

But those who wish will be able to moor at the port of Skala, the mayor of Patmos, who is also President of the port authority of Patmos, has guaranteed that there will be free spaces.

Also, the Race Organizing Committee in cooperation with the Patmos Marina can provide buses for a visit to the sights of the island as long as there is enough time and requests. The details of such actions cannot be determined at this point because no one knows the intentions of Aeolus and Poseidon, as all sailors know that control our lives at sea.

A pleasant coincidence for the sailors of the Race is the fact that at premises of Patmos Marina on the evening of September 13th there will be a traditional folk festival in which you can participate without any charge. There will be a traditional orchestra and as usual the feast keeps up to the wee hours. It should be noted that the Patmos Marina has one of the best restaurants on the island with a very good cuisine, certified by the Aegean Cuisine and good prices.

During the visit of the Organizing Committee representatives in Lipsi, the Mayor of Lipsi Mr. Fotis Mangos expressed his joy and the intention of doing their best so the crews have a pleasant stay in Lipsi, which is already known from previous visits of the N.O.L. on the island.

In Lipsi on September 14th the Educational-Cultural Association of Leros “Artemis” will also be present, who in cooperation with the city of Lipsi will present an artistic program. The intention of the Event Organizing Committee is that the sailors that are willing and capable take part in the artistic program, stating their participation with an e-mail to ntallaris@gmail.com, President of Artemis Mr. Anthony Ntallari. At Lipsi like every year the competitors will be welcomed by visitors from Finland, who each year come to Leros for the race.

Alexis’s Tamarisk II was used for the trip of the representatives to both islands and it was a very good opportunity for Christina to demonstrate her excellent sailing knowledge, which is only natural after all the years that she has traveled with the “Daphne”, along with Goran in the Aegean Sea. As can be seen in the video at some point Christina after trimming the sails let the Tamarisk II travel without holding the wheel. She was so sure about what she had done that she did not hesitate to take a nap.

Conclusion: Fortunately she is not taking part in the race because we would have a very strong opponent.

With great success, despite the problems we faced as a country, capital controls, refugees and the surprise elections of 20th of September, the 6th GORAN SCHILD REGATTA was organized with success by the Leros Nautical Club, the Christina and Goran Schild faundation, the cultural Association of Leros “Artemis” and the Municipality of Leros.

Event Co-organizer was the South Aegean Region.

The Aegean Cuisine was represented by Maritanna Anthopoulou- Alakioti, which made a detailed
presentation of the idea of the Aegean Cuisine and how it relates to the spirit of Goran Schildt.

The Embassy of Finland in Athens was represented by Ambassador Mr. Pauli Makela.
The artistic program in the Opening Ceremony was sponsored by the Christina and Goran Schildt foundation and the Cultural Association “Artemis”.
Unfortunately some of the members of the Race Committee could not be on Leros for the days of the race because of the surprise elections of September 20th.
Therefore we could not have ORC-Club class, but only OPEN CLASS. As a result, this year only 13 vessels partisipated instead of 20 which were interested at first.

A second consequence of the unstable situation, because of the refugee problem was the change of the route.

The Organnising Committee decided that instead Agathonisi, the second stop of the race would be Arki. So, the program and the path of the race was:

The honorary award “Daphne” which is the effigy of the Daphne of Goran Schilds boat, was awarded to the crew of the Sea Diana, from Finland. Hannu Rajala was captain and the crew consisted of Anto Lehto, Martti Rapeli, Timo Kropsu.
The award decision was a personal decision of the President of Leros Nautical Club notwithstanding the regulation and was based on the following data.

Α. The Sea Diana with the same skipper and crew participated in all the events in honor of Goran Schild, initiator of which was the President of the Leros Nautical Club in 2010.
Β. In the 2012 regatta the Sea Diana had a serious accident, fortunately without any injury or casualties. The mast broke. The crew and the captain shouldered the cost of damage, because the boat was not insured to take part in sailing races. At the Closing Ceremony they said that they would take part Goran Schild regatta as long as they have the power to.

The task of the Race Committee was taken on by the President of the Leros Nautical Club Alexis Charalampidis with his boat Tamarisk II and assistance of his dog Hara, as shown in the pictures of the end of the race in Arki.
All sailors, friends and the thirty guests who came from Finland to watch the race, left with the best impressions. It is certain that this year the Finnish, Swedish, Turkish and Italian sailing magazines will write very laudatory articles about the Event, the Club, the hospitality and the beauty of the islands visited by the Regatta.
Before we departed we all promised to meet again for the 7th Regatta in Memory Goran Schildt in September 2016.
